I
see you’ve
got some time on your hands... why else would you be here on my Personal
Interests Web page.
Nonetheless... Welcome!
I
guess I've created this webpage with the prospect of being able to speak
my mind without having to chop off my thoughts in the process, which is
sometimes what I am expected to do in everyday life. Below are some morsels
of my favorite pass times that I don't get to indulge in as often as I
would like.

Poetry:
As
far as my leisurely interests go, I’m
fascinated by poetry. I like to brood over idiosyncrasies
and ponder over words of acumen if and when I have the time.
Some friends erroneously exaggerate and tell me that I can write poetry
myself. On a personal level, these are merely thoughts. I have in the
past received two Editor’s Choice Awards from the
International Library of Poetry. If you’re interested
in reading some of my thoughts, you can browse to my compilation of
“Silent
Stories”. For now... here's some Khalil Gibran:
Khalil
Gibran:
My
favourite poet / philosopher / artist is Khalil Gibran.
I find a certain sense of serenity in his words and sagacity in his
thoughts. In his own words, “Poetry is a deal of joy
and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary” :-)
Here’s
the piece that got me hooked on Gibran three years ago: This
is Gibran on Reason & Passion:
( If you want to read more of Gibran, visit: http://www.kahlil.org/home.html

Your
reason and your passion
are the rudder and the sails of your sea-faring soul.
If either your sails or your rudder be broken, you can but toss
and drift, or else be held at a standstill in mid-seas. For reason,
ruling alone, is a force confining - and passion, unattended,
is a flame that burns to its own destruction.
Therefore
let your soul exalt your reason to the height of passion, that
it may sing, and let it direct your passion with reason, that
your passion may live through its own daily resurrection, and
like the phoenix rise above its own ashes.
I
would have you consider your judgement and your appetite even
as you would two loved guests in your house. Surely you would
not honour one guest above the other - for he who is more mindful
of one loses the love and the faith of both.
Among
the hills, when you sit in the cool shade of white poplars, sharing
the peace and serenity of distant fields and meadows - then let
your heart say in silence, 'God rests in reason' - and when the
storm comes, and the mighty wind shakes the forest, and thunder
and lightning proclaim the majesty of the sky - then let your
heart say in awe, 'God moves in passion'.
And
since you are a breath in God's sphere, and a leaf in God's forest,
you too should rest in reason
and move in passion.

Number Theory:
A
while back (during my undergraduate years), I completed an introductory
course in number theory. Ever since, I have been intrigued by mystifying
nature of patterns and relationships among numbers (whole numbers and
rational numbers). Here are a few good websites on Number Theory:
Dave
Rusin's Guide to Number Theory: A good starting point - includes
definitions, sub fields, applications and a bibliography.
The
Journal
of Number Theory: An academic publication featuring research articles
pertaining to contemporary studies in number theory.
Kevin
Brown's Collection: A good compendium of number theory applications,
theorems, tips and tricks.
